Sammy goes Global - Transformation of a boys room (7 years old)

I recently had the pleasure of designing a beautiful little boys room for a little man called Sammy.  Sammy was sharing a room with his 2 little sisters and was desperate to break out into his own space.   Just turning 7, the timing was right for the break-away.

Here are some of the considerations in designing Sammy's room:
  • Worldly awareness - Sammy loves his Globe and knows where to find more places in the world than I care to think of.  Largely due to his awesome Dad who has shared his travelling stories and taken the time to give Sammy such a wide landscape for thinking about our world.  This wall decal was perfect and so affordable from Ebay.  Yellow pins yet to be applied to all the places Sammy would like to visit.
  • Sammy's Special Stuff - Sammy's a collector and much to his Mum's frustrations, loved to hold onto all his special things.  Storage was a must for Sammy's Room. Fortunately we found these amazing Apple Crates on a family farm and were able to incorporate these into the design.
  • Recycle, Reuse and celebrate everything old as new again - This room was done on a budget of less than $150 (most of which was the stunning World Decal).    The bed was spray painted yellow.  The paint for the walls and desk were left over for another project. The milk-crate seat was free  as were the apple crates.  The linen was less than $20 from Target.  Pop cushions in Taxi Yellow and Chevron was all recycled from another project.  Stationary and Sam Letters (not shown in Pictures) are from Typo.
I hope you'll agree the charcoal and yellow are so fresh and perfect for the journey for one special 7 year old to explore his space and saviour his treasures.
